In 1970, modified racing at Nazareth Speedway was a raw, aggressive, and high-speed grassroots sport contested on the venue's historic dirt ovals.

The Track and Environment

The Surfaces: Racing took place on the legendary Pennsylvania dirt tracks, which included the shorter 1/2-mile oval as well as the sweeping 1.125-mile dirt track (Nazareth National Speedway).

The Atmosphere: Packed grandstands drew hardcore short-track fans who watched roaring, loose-sliding East Coast modified coupe and sedan stock cars battle under the lights or Sunday afternoon sun.

The Competition: The era was defined by heavy mechanical attrition; equipment frequently failed under the intense strain of dirt-track racing, meaning finishing a long string of consecutive features was rare and a mark of true endurance.Key Events and Drivers

The All Star Racing League: Nazareth served as a major battleground for regional powerhouse competitions like the All Star Racing League, hosting marquee events such as Will Cagle’s prominent feature win in June 1970.

The Legends: The clay and dirt were dominated by Northeast short-track icons like Frankie Schneider, Buzzie Reutimann, and Will Cagle, who wrestled heavy, high-horsepower modifieds through the sweeping turns.

Mike Bliss stole a shocking last-lap victory from Kenny Irwin Jr. in the 1996 Coca-Cola 100 at Indianapolis Raceway Park on May 18, 1996.

Race Highlights and Finish

The Dominant Run: Kenny Irwin Jr. led for much of the 100-lap USAC Silver Crown race and held a commanding half-lap lead as the white flag waved for the final lap.

The Traffic Jam: Coming into turns one and two on the final circuit, Irwin caught heavily slowed slower-car traffic.

The Winning Move: Capitalizing instantly, Mike Bliss dove his No. 69 McClure Special straight to the bottom of the track and kept his foot on the gas.

The Photo Finish: Bliss and Irwin made contact and locked wheels, sliding across the finish line side-by-side in one of the wildest, most spectacular finishes in USAC Silver Crown history.

The Result: Bliss edged Irwin by mere inches to take the victory—leading only the very final lap of the entire race. Dave Blaney rounded out the podium in third.

The Fast Masters was a wild, made-for-television racing series broadcast on ESPN in the summer of 1993, featuring legendary drivers over the age of 50 competing in identical $750,000 Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) Jaguar XJ220 supercars at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

The Racing Setup

The Venue: Races took place under the lights at the 0.686-mile Indianapolis Raceway Park roval.

The Drivers: The grid included famous names from Formula 1, IndyCar, and NASCAR, such as Bobby Unser, Paul Newman, and Derek Bell.

The Cars: TWR prepared the Havoline-sponsored XJ220 race cars, which ran on high-performance Bridgestone street tires.

Why It Became "Crash Masters"

Handling Issues: The heavy supercars and their unique limited-slip differentials proved tough to manage on the tight oval layout.

High-Cost Incidents: Drivers had no financial stake in the cars, leading to numerous spectacular and expensive crashes that thinned out the field.

Short Run: The chaotic nature of the events turned the show into a massive television spectacle before it quietly ended after just one summer.

THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF ROOMWRS. HERE IS ALL THE FACTS AND EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DAYS OF THUNDER 2.....

Paramount Pictures has officially set a June 2, 2028 release date for Days of Thunder 2, with Tom Cruise returning as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle.

Production & Cast Details

The Cast: Tom Cruise is joined by co-lead Anne Hathaway, who is slated to play a racing team owner and engineer.

Behind the Camera: Jonathan Levine is directing from a script by Will Staples. Cruise is producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.

Formats & Release: The film is being shot for IMAX and will launch in premium large formats, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX.

Recent News & Reactions

Daytona Appearance: Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway appeared at Daytona International Speedway during the Coke Zero Sugar 400 weekend to promote the announcement.

Debunking Rumors: The pair shared a behind-the-scenes video on location to squash initial fan speculation that their announcement photo was AI-generated, with Hathaway playfully joking about filming after her pregnancy.

Controversy: Original Days of Thunder actor Randy Quaid publicly criticized Hathaway's casting on social media, arguing that Cruise should instead reunite with his former co-star and ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

So whats your thoughts on this?? I cant see how they could possibly match or out shine the first one....If they wanted to do a second one the whole time, they should have done it within the 90s. But we will have to just wait and see!
