The final 2 laps of this race is incredible. If there is a clip people could point to and show people why they miss this track so much I must say, I think this would qualify!

In 2003, the NASCAR Modified Tour (now the Whelen Modified Tour) visited the 1/3-mile Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. Todd Szegedy won the event, cementing his early-career status as a rising star before going on to claim that year's Tour championship. The race at Beech Ridge was a key stop during a four-year run (2002–2005) when the Modified Tour made regular visits to the Pine Tree State. The 2003 event is remembered for showcasing a mix of legendary Tour veterans and emerging talents on the short, flat oval.

Carl Bugs Steven's wheelin that Woodchopper Special through the corner at Utica Rome! (I believe this was 1973? Not 100%)
No power steering back then!! Not to mention so many other luxuries they raced without back then versus today and they regularly would run very long races. Most of the schedule was a 200 lapper. Lol its funny...Remember when the Thompson 300 was the Thompson 300!? 😆 I forget how many times Bugsy broke his back. It was more then a couple I know that.

GROUND POUNDING GLADIATORS!

WE MADE APPAREL CALLED GROUND POUNDING GLADIATORS if your a modified fan. Check out our store pinned to top of page.

Ray Hendrick was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2012, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2007, and will be inducted in the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2026.

Hendrick raced his famous winged No. 11 Modified coupe fielded by Jack Tant and Clayton Mitchell. Rick Hendrick (no relation) was a pit crew member on his car in the 1960s.[1] The Richmond, Virginia star won five track championships at South Boston Speedway, four of them while competing in the NASCAR Modified division and one in the NASCAR Late Model Sportsman division.

Hendrick never won the National Modified Championship but finished in the top-ten in points nine times:
