This Saturday - the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day,
The Lincoln Depot Museum presents:

Return to the Beaches!
D-Day - June 6, 1944
with Historian Phil Devlin

Saturday, June 6, 2026 - 2:00 pm
(museum opens at 1:00 pm)

A force of nearly 160,000 landed on the beaches that day, including 73,000 Americans. Along those 50 miles of desolate beach, more than 10,000 allied Troops would be casualties on that single day, 2400 Americans on Omaha Beach alone.

By the end of June, nearly a million men, a half a million tons of supplies and 150,000 vehicles would be landed on those beaches, beginning months of hard fighting in campaigns that would result in eventual N**i surrender and the liberation of an occupied Europe.

Listen to the cries of a Lincoln Mourning Cockade worn by a grief-stricken American upon Lincoln's passing.

The weather forecast is a bit gloomy for this weekend. What can you do on a cold and rainy Memorial Day Weekend?

Why come to the Lincoln Depot Museum of course!

You know you've been wanting to - it's been on your to-do list forever! Here's a great opportunity.

Did you know that Memorial Day was, in large part, created by our Civil War Veterans - to honor their fallen brethren? Of course there were observances all across the country, and graves were decorated and ceremonies were held. Among them were events in the southern states, in which the women of the South decorated the graves of fallen Union soldiers - "we do for theirs, what we would have them do for ours." But in early May of 1868, General John A. Logan, then Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic (the largest and most influential Union Veterans organization) issued General Orders No. 11, directing that May 30th be designated “for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion.” The observance became known as Decoration Day - eventually expanding to include the decoration of all US military graces, and becoming Memorial Day.

Drop by the museum and see some of the Civil War items on display, and of course spend some time with President Abraham Lincoln and learn about his life and experiences! While you're here, you can see General Logan too!
