Bowles-Strachan House, Inc. The Bowles-Strachan House is a designated Broward County historical landmark, since 2012. A 501c3 In 1940 a small town was born in unincorporated Broward County.

The Bowles-Strachan House is the last of four display houses that were built in 1941 and the oldest house in Carver Ranches, a sub- division of the City of West Park, FL. Its birth was the brainchild of a group of white businessmen, who formed a company by the name of Carver Ranches, Inc. They purchased 300 acres of undeveloped land full of Palmetto bushes and full of promises. The few display hou

ses they built and the remaining empty lots were sold to Negroes only; so you see, Carver Ranches was a planned Black community from the start. Ethelyn Bowles moved from Cat Island, Bahamas as a young lady and settled in Liberty City (Miami). The opportunity to become a homeowner moved her to purchased one of the display shot-gun housed in Carver ranches for $945. She and her son, Theodore 'Lucky' Strachan, were early settlers of this remote area and help build a solid foundation and legacy as part of American history.
