CUBED is an annual display of murals created by local and regional artists. The live painting and artmaking event began on November 12, 2017 in downtown Pensacola at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza. The inaugural event was sponsored by the Foo Foo Festival in collaboration with the Pensacola Museum of Art. In 2018, CUBED was relocated to its current location at the UWF Historic Trust Museum Plaza. This outdoor mural event now commences every spring to offer live mural-making performances where the public can engage with the artists and witness their creative processes.

Come join us for the opening of our newest exhibition The Poetics of Painting: A Celebration of the Lineage and Legacy of John Markowitz.

The opening reception is Friday, March 6, from 5-7 PM, and it will be free and open to the public.

This exhibition celebrates the life and work of John Markowitz. Markowitz was a dedicated artist who explored the traditional process of pigmented media on a two-dimensional surface. Many of his pieces utilize historical motifs of landscape and still life, but Markowitz’s ultimate subject is the transformational potential of oil paint and the contemplation of time, perception, and memory. His paintings, drawings, and sketchbooks from the last five decades form the primary focus of this exhibition. Featured in adjoining galleries are more than fifty works of art created by Markowitz’s mentors and students. This exhibition also includes additional paintings, drawings, photographs, and prints that he helped the museum acquire and steward for the community as Chair of the PMA’s Collection Committee.
