What would this life be like without the artists, freethinkers and rebels? I happen to think it would be really dull. Most of my art is inspired by nature, other artists or it just comes from inside my head. This is my latest painting called “1919” and it is a painting I’ve wanted to attempt for over 20 years.
I painted this in silence. Monet wanted his paintings to be enjoyed in silence, so I decided to paint in silence to honor him. Silence is hard for me because I have a condition called otosclerosis, and I never really hear silence. My ear rings 24/7. I should actually say that it roars like the ocean. Painting is a wonderful distraction from this. As my condition progresses I find myself wanting to isolate more. Conversations are not pleasant for me when I have to decide what I think people might be saying to me. I especially find myself annoyed when people that speak super quiet or low, or with people that mumble or when someone turns their head in the other direction. Loud background noise or a loud tv competes with their words making me have to concentrate even harder. I could have a surgery to fix this, and I am not ready yet. There is a risk that I could go completely deaf in that ear. So I wait.
Anyway, here is my latest painting inspired by my all time favorite painting. I saw a poster of this painting at a basement booth Fisherman’s Wharf in Seattle as a teenager and I was instantly obsessed with the muted tones and how Monet captured the light and shadows and reflections. I did the painting in my more abstract style and I used brighter colors. This is not meant to be a replica, it’s just inspired by something I find really beautiful. I hope you enjoy this painting because I was put here to be an artist a freethinker and a rebel. I’ve added this to my Redbubble collection if anyone wants a print of this.
