The Origin Stories Symposium is for artists and storytellers of all kinds to celebrate the power of human connection. It’s a celebration of empathy and the ways creativity can open us up to the people we pass on the street every day. The event includes panel discussions, live music, and time to explore the art boxes on display, illustrating their creators’ personal origins.

Participants:

Jason Chu, rapper, activist, musician, speaks of hope and healing in a hurting world. As a kid in suburban Delaware, he found a vocabulary for identity and liberation in hip-hop culture. He is also a prominent voice in the national Asian American conversation.

Sean Callery, tv/film composer, has received 17 Emmy nominations and 4 wins, placing him among the most nominated composers of all time. Known for his dynamic and evocative scores, he has crafted music for celebrated series such as Homeland, R.J. Decker, The Beast in Me, the Sherlock Holmes series Elementary, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Bones, and Designated Survivor, among others.

Tomo Moriwaki, teacher and game designer, got his start at Treyarch. A game designer for most of his career, leading the design for Spider-Man: The Movie Game (2001), Spider-Man 2: The Movie Game (2004), Boom Blox (2008), and Medal of Honor (2010). Color Lab with Lena Wolff
Sunday, May 24, 2026
12:00 PM -4:00 PM
Color Lab was designed for everyone interested in learning how to experiment with color in new ways. Structured to convey the basics of color theory through hands-on practice, the workshop walks through a sequence of fun, approachable exercises in paint-mixing and collage. In-between art activities, a slideshow is presented that shares information on the biology of color vision, a breakdown of the essential properties of color, and the wondrous phenomenon of color relativity, with visual examples from the early color theorists, textiles, folk-art, and work by contemporary artists.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a small set of color charts and collages, and fodder for a lifetime of future experimentation.

Open to absolute beginners, practicing artists, designers, and craftspeople alike. Older teens with a serious interest in art are also welcome to register.
