Laurel Hill Mansion Philadelphia Park House Laurel Hill Mansion, built in 1767 is open to the public for tours & events to 4:00 p.m. with guided tours available.

Historic Laurel Hill Mansion is nestled along the scenic Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It has a prominent location on a high bluff overlooking the river. One of the most visible houses that ring the river, the view of the river from the back porch is not to be missed and should be included in any tour of Philadelphia. The original house built by Rebecca Rawle in

1764 consisted of a two-story Georgian brick structure with a symmetrically placed entry and a gallery of windows on the first and second floors. In the late 18th/early 19th century, a small single story wing was added to the south-side of the home. The unique two-story octagonal wing was added to the north side soon thereafter. The house is open to the public from mid-April to mid-December Thursday – Sunday from 10:00 a.m. It is recommended that you call in advance (215) 235-1776. There are also special events though out the year including a symposium during Women’s history month, a Spring Tea that raises funds for the maintenance of the house, a well-regarded Summer Series of Chamber Music Concerts that take place in the octagonal music room among others. Wawa Welcome America Free Museum Day at Laurel Hill Mansion
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM, visitors are invited to enjoy a full day of free, family-friendly programming at one of Philadelphia’s most significant historic sites.
Guests can take guided tours of the mansion, enjoy traditional lawn games including Quoits and Co****le and crafting activities.
This Free Museum Day is part of a larger initiative in which historic East Fairmount Park houses open their doors free of charge, including:

Laurel Hill Mansion will be open for tours from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

William Rawle, son of Rebecca Rawle Shoemaker at whose behest Laurel Hill was built was an early member of the Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery. In 1805 he argued before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court that slavery was unconstitutional but sadly lost that case.

🎭 Introducing Voices of Laurel Hill Mansion
Women for Greater Philadelphia, in partnership with Casabuena Cultural Productions, is proud to announce Voices of Laurel Hill Mansion an original living history production that brings the past to life inside one of Philadelphia’s most historic homes.
Audiences will meet five historical figures connected to Laurel Hill Mansion and hear their stories in their own words, including Rebecca Warner Rawle Shoemaker, Samuel Shoemaker, Esther de Berdt Reed, Le Chevalier Anne-César de La Luzerne, and William Rawle.
Set within the historic 1767 mansion in East Fairmount Park, this immersive performance offers a powerful and personal look at the people who helped shape the American story.

Voices of Laurel Hill Mansion, an original work that explores the rich cultural and historical legacy of this landmark site. Voices of LHM premieres on June 13th at Laurel Hill Mansion with a matinee 3:00p.m. and an evening 7:00p.m. performance. A reception follows each performance.
