The Academy is a force for nature! Do you ever wonder what our scientists are up to while they aren't out in the field, in the lab, or analyzing data?

On March 17, the Academy’s Dr. David Keller joined leaders from the in Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress about protecting and restoring the Delaware River. Representing 200 organizations across five states, the Coalition highlighted the watershed’s importance as a source of clean drinking water for more than 14 million people and a driver of the regional economy.

Dr. Keller also attended the Congressional Delaware River Watershed Caucus breakfast and met with congressional offices to advocate for continued support of restoration efforts, including the Delaware River Basin Protection Act.

Thursday, April 23 is the final night of our 2026 Confluence Film Festival.

Join us and the Philadelphia Latino Arts & Film Festival as we screen two special films. Hasta la Raíz (2024, 15 min), is a short historic fiction film directed by Nuria Schettino González, set in 1856 at a Mexican rancho in what is now Los Angeles, where a Tongva woman fights to protect her land and her daughter. The program continues with El Tren y la Península (2023, 88 min), a feature-length documentary by directors Sky Richards and Andreas Kruger Foncerrada, which offers an intimate and cinematic journey through Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula amid the construction of the controversial Maya Train, foregrounding the voices of local residents to reveal the environmental, social, and cultural consequences of imposed development.
