Just a reminder that the opening reception for the 15th Annual Ikebana Exhibition at Shofuso is tomorrow night! Help us celebrate the talented floral artists of Ikebana International Philadelphia Chapter 71 who display their beautiful arrangements at Shofuso all year long.

The Ikebana arrangements are provided by practitioners of multiple schools of Ikebana and presented throughout the house, garden and on the veranda. Exhibitors from four Ikebana schools will speak on their arrangements and explain the meaning behind their work. It's a great way to meet the members of Ikebana International and learn more about the practice of Ikebana.

Enjoy an intimate Otsukimi moon-viewing party at Shofuso!

Otsukimi (moon-viewing) is a Japanese holiday that celebrates the harvest moon and is usually observed in September and October. Join us after hours to watch the moon rise over Shofuso’s pond.

Shofuso is proud to host an exhibition to honor Ikebana International Philadelphia Chapter 71 and their continued support. Members of I.I. Chapter 71 generously provide Shofuso with beautiful ikebana arrangements weekly during the season, adding beauty to our historic site.

The Philly Japanese Conversation Club at Shofuso is a free monthly program for Japanese and English speakers of all levels to practice their language skills, share language resources, learning methods, and practice reading and typing Japanese together. It is a safe space for people to make connections within the community. Members are encouraged to share links to resources and pose questions to other members of the group.

Just a reminder, the Japanese Yoshuku Calligraphy Workshop is next Wednesday at Shofuso!

In this hands-on workshop you will create the character Hasu (Lotus) and learn about it's connection to the Obon holiday.

The workshop will include:
- Introduction to Azumi’s new book, “YOSHUKU: The Japanese Art of Manifesting”
- Discussion of a chapter relevant to Obon
- Azumi will lead a short, guided meditation
- Calligraphy session (materials will be provided)

PLEASE NOTE: The Saturday, August 8th Mukaebi Obon Lantern Floating Ceremony at Shofuso has been moved to Sunday, August 9th due to rain in the forecast. The time and schedule for the event will be the same, from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Anyone who has already purchased tickets will be contacted with more information.
