"Another audience that lingers in my memory was one of Workers in a California shipyard during World War II. I had been invited to christen a new liberty ship, the Booker T. Washington. The ceremonies took place during the lunch hour, and I sang several songs, I remember that there were men on the deck of the ship, on scaffolds, and in riggings. They demanded encores, and I am afraid the program went beyond the lunch hour." ~ Marian Anderson

The Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society would like to wish everyone a peaceful and safe Labor Day Holiday. As we reflect on the dedicated service and spirit of the American Workforce, we ask that you remember Marian Anderson, the incredible service that she gave to the world and the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society.

THE WORK CONTINUES ๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

Maintaining a national historical landmark is no easy task. And even as we continue our brand new Exhibit for the Semiquincentennial 'Marian The American Story', the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society's work of historic Repair and Restoration continues as recent as this week. Important restoration and preservation work must continue and there are always unexpected repair issues. We are hoping that as the seasons change that you would remember the life and impact of our great Marian Anderson and consider supporting the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society as we continue our Capital Campaign.

We are very Thankful for those who have already supported us and for those who believe in the Marian Anderson Museum, our restoration, the legacy, the programming and will continue to support us. "Moving the family would have meant uprooting it, and I had no right to place my career ahead of my family's interests. Their world could not revolve entirely around my affairs. But the family was not all. There were other people to be consideredโ€”all the friends and neighbors who had believed in me. They had not helped me and had faith in me just to see me run away to Europe. I had gone to Europe to achieve something, to reach for a place as a serious artist, but I never doubted that I must return. I wasโ€”and amโ€”an American." ~ Marian Anderson
