"If I see something that I felt, I would paint that, from feeling, because I was trying to give to the person what I could see that is beautiful."

Those are the words of Bessie Ruth Bridges, 98, who taught art in the Philadelphia school district for more than 30 years and has been an artist for more than 70 years. She was celebrated in a special Art Talk & Exhibit on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at the Paul Robeson House & Museum in Philadelphia. The event was sponsored by the West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance/Paul Robeson House & Museum and Moody Jones Gallery.

Enjoy these photos from the event, watch a video of a conversation between Bridges and Adrian Moody, who represents her as an artist, and watch a slideshow video of her work and influence on her students.
