Shooting with creative purpose is one of the things we teach in all of our workshops. Yesterday, I decided that I would shoot the kayakers on the Tohickon a bit differently and went for close-ups of the action and expressions with a super telephoto. What great fun!

If you hurry, you can still get in on the action today on the creek and our Cognitive Composition workshop which starts on Tuesday. For details, please see:

Photography is not about taking pictures any more than doodling is about art. It is about having a vision and creating the image that you see in your mind’s eye. The camera is there only to record what you see in your head. Regardless of what the latest and greatest equipment being touted is, it is up to you to make your camera see what you want it to see.

That is what our Cognitive Composition Workshop is all about. It is a totally different way of looking at the world relative to image creation with a focus on controlling and manipulating your equipment to do your bidding. You won’t shoot the same way after you have taken the workshop!

This iteration of Cognitive Composition is a bit different than the way we’ve done it in the past. Smaller class size and more time to discuss your own needs are something that we are trying out. It starts next week so please share this with your friends and check out the details at:

Our always popular Cognitive Composition Workshop is back in November and, once again, we'll be doing a location shoot at Pennhurst Asylum as part of the class!

We're also doing things a bit differently and adding a new segment in response to requests from photographers so be sure to check it out at the link below and share with your fellow photographers!

We were planning on announcing a new workshop today but something far more important has come up. One of our own is having some serious health issues and could use our help.

Bill Brokaw has been an important member of the Delaware Valley’s photographic community for years. Bill is a truly good guy who has been a great influence for many of the region’s photographers and who has provided a multitude of opportunities for photographers of all levels to have their work shown to the world.

I’ll leave the details of the challenges he faces to be covered in his own words in the link below. I’m sure everyone wishes him the very best and if you are in a position to help, that would be great.

Henry

Our current project, Two Summer Days is currently on display and is delighting visitors from around the world and beyond. (yes, we are that famous!)

On behalf of the Pennsylvania Center for Photography and all of the photographers who had the opportunity to show their innovative work at the New Hope Arts Center, we would like to offer a big thank you to Carol Cruickshanks and the entire NHAC community for all of their hospitality and help. To say that it was a pleasure working with Carol would be an enormous understatement, as she really could not have made things any easier or made us feel more welcome.

The TRANSFORMATIONS Exhibition was a huge success, thanks in large part to the
quality of the venue in which it was held. The NHAC community has every reason to be very proud of the facility that they have built. It has become an exceptional gallery space and fills a huge need for the region’s artists, artisans, and the public at-large. We often hear the phrase “Support the Arts” and that is exactly what the NHAC is doing, and it benefits all of us in so many different ways. Bucks County has a long history as a mecca for talented artists of all ilks and we are very glad that that tradition lives on in New Hope. Thank you!

Henry and Nancy Rowan

The TRANSFORMATION Exhibition ends on Monday at the New Hope Arts Center so this is the final chance to see over 250 great images such as our Digital Exhibition Honorable Mention winners Mark Aizenberg for his image "Veteran" and David Anderson for his image "2101".

Gallery hours are Saturday 12-5, Sunday 12-5, and Labor Day from 12-3. Print pick-up starts at 3 pm on Monday. The New Hope Arts Center is located at 2 Stockton St. in New Hope, Pa. The gallery is on the 2nd floor.

To keep everyone, especially children and immune compromised individuals, as safe as possible, we will be requiring that everyone in the gallery wear a mask and we will ask that unvaccinated people not enter the gallery, even if masked, but rather enjoy the show on-line at: https://www.pacenterforphotography.org/

Our power is out at home but the lights are on at the gallery and we will be open for the final weekend of the TRANSFORMATIONS Exhibition. Hours are 1 to 5 on Friday, Saturday 12-5, Sunday 12-5, and Labor Day from 12-3. Print pick-up starts at 3 pm on Monday.

We recommend you stick to the main roads or check to see if roads along the river are open beforehand. Hopefully the power will come back on and I can do a real post but if you would let your friends know that we're open, it would be greatly appreciated!
