It’s messy and challenging and oh so worth it. Two skilled and compassionate instructors, small classes, and, eventually, lovely results. Check our website for upcoming classes.

Karen (Otter) Escovitz is our May Member Spotlight! “All my life I’ve been a musician. And I had appreciated and even collected lovely ceramic pieces for years - and never thought to make them. But when COVID shut down any possibility of making music with other people - all rehearsals and performances shut down - I took advantage of a beginner clay class. And then another. It got me out into a whole new medium for creativity. I joined Outlaw Arts in order to fan the spark those first couple of classes had lit in me. I really appreciate the community of makers that is centered around this studio - and the opportunity to learn with, and from, each studio member I come across - based on their strengths and skills. Glazing is my jam. I love playing with the ways the glazes interact and sometimes move each other. Any potter will tell you that you can never totally control what happens in the kiln. It took awhile for me to embrace that. I go in with a hypothesis, perhaps an intention, but the firing process is a mystery that transform… sometimes in unexpected ways. Sometimes I test glazes in advance using test tiles. But more often, I roll with the philosophy that every piece is a test tile, and just fire and see what happens.”
