In January 1925: More than 15,000 exhibitors from twenty countries were readying their presentations for The International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. The goal of the exhibition's organizers was clear: it would be a celebration of the new modern style of architecture, interior decoration, furniture, glass, jewelry and other decorative arts.

It was declared to be "open to all manufacturers whose products are artistic in character and show clearly modern tendencies."

The exposition occupied nearly 60 acres of central Paris and would be visited by an international audience of more than
16 million people over the course of 6 months -including hundreds of American designers, artists, journalists and department store buyers.

The exposition created an international demand for the style which later became known as Art Deco and it would influence the decorative arts, fashion, film, literature, and style for the next 100 years.

January 2025: The Centenary of The 1925 Paris Expo casts a global spotlight on Art Deco and its influence on design for the past 100 years. Stay tuned . . .

If anyone who sees this has banked with Fulton Bank, can you comment please? We have banked with Republic Bank for three decades and they were recently absorbed by Fulton. The transition has been a nightmare. This photo shows the time I held on their 800 # to try to get help with online linking. 4 and a half hours! And it isn’t resolved. I’m on hold again today. For an hour and 5 minutes so far.

In case you aren't on our email list - we've been sending a series of weekly emails leading up to the centenary of the 1925 PARIS INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION. This week we've featured an exquisite cabinet by Jules Leleu. He was a designer, sculptor, neotraditionalist, and in the early 1920s his work epitomized the world of luxurious interior design, and elegant furniture crafted from fine and exotic materials.

This cabinet, circa 1923, is a prime example of Leleu's superb sense of design, taste, and discerning fabrication. It's signed and executed in amboyna, an exotic hardwood from Indonesia, and has an inlaid ivory medallion, mounts and stringing, and the original Breche marble top. It's !
