Quilt City USA Murals

Quilt City USA Murals Quilt City USA® Murals is a privately funded floodwall mural series featuring paintings of actual quilts. BE A PART OF QUILT CITY USA® MURALS!

The mission of Quilt City USA® Murals is to educate both locals and visitors on the relevance and rich history of QUILTMAKING! Quilt City USA® Murals are painted renderings of actual quilts applied to the floodwall adjacent to the Carroll Convention Center in Paducah, Kentucky. Paducah is:

· Home to the American Quilter's Society, the largest quilting organization in the world, and The Nati

onal Quilt Museum of the United States
· A Mecca and “bucket list” destination for quilters and quilt enthusiasts from around the world
· The location of AQS QuiltWeek Paducah

Quilting has been the common thread connecting Paducah to people and places across the globe. Nearly 100,000 quilters and quilt enthusiasts from around the world make an annual trek to this UNESCO Creative City known as Quilt City USA® to view some of the finest quilts being created today or to take workshops with internationally acclaimed instructors. Lead Artist Char Downs has invested nearly 700 hours recreating Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry’s historic award-winning quilt Corona II: Solar Eclipse—the first quilt in the series—in her studio in Paducah’s LowerTown Arts District. The unveiling of the painted rendition of Corona II: Solar Eclipse was AQS QuiltWeek Paducah Fall, September 13-16, 2017. The second quilt in the series was unveiled on Veterans Day, November 11, 2020, at 11 am. Melinda Bula described her quilt “…and Our Flag was Still There!” as “a painting without any paint.” Muralist Stefanie Graves recreated the quilt using paint for the Quilt City USA® Murals project. You can nominate a quilt, donate, or become a sponsor of a quilt mural. Visit the "Get Involved" tab at www.paducahquiltmurals.org. Quilts selected for murals must reflect historic, educational, humanitarian or environmental relevance, or have an iconic provenance to their time in history. The cost of sponsoring a mural is $20,000, but there are many start up costs in launching a project of this scope. Your tax deductible gift to Paducah Quilt Murals Inc will make an immediate impact in transforming the Quilt City USA® Murals project from concept to reality by helping with the cost of:

· Artist fees
· Artist materials & supplies
· Contractor fees to clean, prep, seal & prime the floodwall
· Installation of the mural on the floodwall
· Liability Insurance & legal fees
· Ongoing maintenance & lighting

We hope you will join us and consider an individual or guild sponsorship or donation. Any donation, large or small is appreciated. If you would like to know more about Quilt City USA® Murals, contact Dr. Jay Downs Siska, Project Administrator, at [email protected].

THANK YOU's are in order to the Market House Museum for posting these fabulous pics of the "Xela Wins at Keeneland" Mural Ceremony. The "Xela" quilt is now on display at the Market House Museum. What's the connection here? Plenty! Our sponsor Mike Cappock is also on the MHMuseum board and Museum director Linda Job Schmitt has been an enthusiastic supporter of the QCUSA Murals project. That's just how we roll here in Paducah Creative City.

A beginning, an end, and everything in between.
In August 2024, Lead Artist Char Downs began priming the panels for Mary’s Mural featuring a vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden: Diamond Field quilt. Since then, in between her painting sessions, she experienced a hip replacement and sustained serious injuries after a fall while working on the mural. With a little help from her friends, Char put the last stroke on the mural canvas on April 12, 2026. But it's not over yet. She's sealing it and getting it ready for installation. Save the date, June 11, for another important announcement about the Quilt City USA Murals! Here are the names of a few of Char's Friends who helped get her through to the end: Stefanie Graves Deb Lyons Richard Glasscock Jay Siska

Could it be? Yes it could.
Something's coming, something good,
If I can wait.
Something's coming, I don't know what it is,
But it is
Gonna be great!
