Ruth E. Carter has her fair share of iconic costumes, but the Fly Guy costume from "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" is one visitors go out of their way to pose next to. Ruth Carter leaned into the peacock style of the 1970s with this costume, featuring platform shoes, wide-legged bell bottoms, and a bright yellow suit. 40 years ago in 1986, Jack T. Franklin (1922–2009) donated his entire collection of over 500,000 negatives and photographs to the African American Museum in Philadelphia. The collection includes photos of virtually every social, cultural, and political event in Philadelphia’s African American community during Jack T. Franklin’s lifetime, as well as the major events of the 1960s Civil Rights movement.
For example, the above photo documents The NAACP's protest campaign to desegregate Girard College in 1965.
