n the raw underground corridors and hidden passageways of the Fairmount Water Works history lingers and ten talented artists are busy transforming these unused spaces into sites of art, performance, dialogue and discovery. The fantastical installation entitled, “tu me manques, you are missing from me” by Joy Feasley and Paul Swenbeck is underway and we look foward to seeing its completion. We’re getting close to the opening of our exhibition, Currents, on Saturday, May 9 from 1:00-4:00. Join us!

In the early 19th century, the classically designed Fairmount Water Works became an example of America’s ingenuity. Steam engines, housed in the boiler room down below, were responsible for pumping clean water to the city of Philadelphia and played a vital role in the health and welfare of its residents. Celebrating the Semiqincentennial, the exhibition, Currents, honors this legacy of innovation by inviting 10 artists to create works in response to the history of the Water Works and its environs. The former boiler room is now the site for the artist team of Carolyn Healy and John J H Phillips, who are in the midst of creating their site specific installation entitled, “Headwaters”. Here is a sneak peek! Join us for the opening reception on May 9 from 1:00-4:00 and beyond until August 8.
The Fairmount Water Works is open to the public Wednesday-Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm.
