We remember Deputy Joe Dunn.

On August 14, 2014, Joe began his shift like any other day, serving the people of Cascade County. Before that day was over, he would make the ultimate sacrifice.

Joe was killed in the line of duty near Belt while attempting to deploy spike strips during a high-speed pursuit on Highway 87. He was just 33 years old.

Joe was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who continued his commitment to service as a deputy with the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office. But above all, he was a husband and a father to two children.

His sacrifice remains a powerful reminder of what it means to wear the badge.

There are no guarantees when our deputies begin a shift. They leave their families and come to work knowing that an ordinary day can change in an instant. Yet they continue to answer the call protecting lives, serving their community and standing ready when others need them most.

We honor Joe by remembering his life and sacrifice, and by continuing the mission he served: upholding the rule of law, safeguarding lives and property, and serving the people of Cascade County.

Between the LETR Golf Classic in Three Forks and the Museum Golf Tournament in Butte, we had a whole lot of birdies, a few bogeys, and one seriously good cause. 🏌️‍♂️

To every golfer, sponsor, and volunteer — thank you for teeing it up for something bigger. You made this a hole-in-one for Special Olympics Montana and Montana law enforcement history.

We’re already counting down to the next round. Fore-ever grateful. ⛳

When you choose the MPPA license plate at registration, $25 goes directly to supporting law enforcement families right here in Montana: funding scholarships for their kids and financial assistance for families affected by line-of-duty tragedies.

It’s one of the easiest ways to show your support every single day.

Deputy Sheriff Janet Rogers was shot and killed when she was involved in a gun battle with an armed robbery suspect at approximately 1:30 pm.

She and several other deputies had chased the bank robbery suspect until her patrol car collided with the suspect's car and ended the chase on 2nd Street West between North Choteau Avenue and North Crawford Avenue. The suspect immediately opened fire, striking Deputy Rogers in the abdomen below her vest. Her husband, who was also a deputy involved in the chase, was able to return fire and kill the suspect.

Deputy Rogers was flown to a hospital in Billings, Montana, where she succumbed to her wound four hours later.

Deputy Rogers had served with the Big Horn County Sheriff's Department for nine years. She was survived by her husband and three sons.
