My Body My Truth is an exhibition curated by the Association of Hysteric Curators.
This exhibition focuses on the issue of body autonomy, from the fight to preserve reproductive rights to the issue of gender identity. As agents in a free society we declare our bodies to be our self-evident truths and claim our rights as fundamental to our body autonomy. Nobody, no one, no outsider, no person who is not the body itself determines the will or reality of the self-body. We are neither forced to reproduce, nor is our gender identity determined by society's notion of heteronormativity. We are our own realities, our own bodies.
The feminist collective The Association of Hysteric Curators will curate My Body My Truth, Phoenix, in collaboration with Cobra Flute Projects, the art space directed by artist Amanda Adkins. The show will be a works on paper (no larger than 11” x 14”) show on the topic of choice, truth and personal agency. Cobra Flute Projects is located in Phoenix, Arizona and has graciously agreed to host the next physical iteration of the show. There will also be an online gallery version of the show to highlight the work of the feminist artists featured.
This show is an open call and will be promoted across social media and college campuses as well as community based LGTBQIA+ rights public social media groups and feminist social media groups. What started as a conversation about an abortion show evolved to become a larger discussion on the notion of body autonomy.
