Phoenix Union Colored High School was established September 15, 1926 as a school for African Americans in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. The name was changed to George Washington Carver High School in 1943. Carver was created with the purpose of providing a high quality education for her students, as well as inspiring them to become the next generation of leaders. In 1954 Carver High School ceased

as an educational institution. The George Washington Carver Museum and Culture Center is a privately owned community and culture center that seeks to educate, promote appreciation and respect for people of African/African American descent worldwide: with a special emphasis in Arizona.
