Halt Gallery

Halt Gallery Halt Gallery was created to provide site-specific art exhibitions with unexpected experiences for both artist and viewer.

To that end it is the business of the gallery to model a studio practice of continuing development in order to assist artists in creating experimental and new contemporary works. Halt Gallery was developed by Julia Bruck and Becky Nahom in the spring of 2012 as a new alternative to a conventional art gallery to provide site-specific art exhibitions with unexpected experiences for both artist and v

iewer. The pair met at Arizona State University in 2010 and immediately discovered their shared passion for curating and made plans for a gallery partnership upon graduation. When a search for a traditional brick and mortar space felt too confined, they created a business model to develop exhibitions specific to the sites of traditional and alternative spaces. Julia Bruck was a software consultant for a number of years, but always found herself wandering the galleries and museums of the cities she traveled to. Returning to school to pursue degrees in Art History and Museum Studies she graduated in 2012. Since then she has assisted a number of clients with private collections and installations. Becky Nahom received her degree in Fine Arts in 2013, but by then already possessed a long curatorial resume. After a prestigious internship at site95 in New York City in 2012, she curated a group show, Rinse & Repeat at Bragg’s Pie Factory in downtown Phoenix. It’s no surprise that in 2012, Becky was included as #7 in the top 100 creatives in the Valley by the Phoenix New Times. While still an undergraduate, she curated three exhibitions at Arizona State University galleries including From the Sidelines leaving a member of the press wondering if she “might actually know all of the artists in the greater Phoenix area”. She is currently working as an assistant preparator at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and as an Event and Exhibitions assistant for Scottsdale Public Art. Halt Gallery is currently curating exhibitions in the Halt Gallery Shipping Container at 408 E Roosevelt Street | Phoenix, AZ 85004
