The history of this corner lot in Pierce as I know it: The lot was X. E. Durant’s grocery store; then it was Walt R**e Sr.’s store, becoming Walt R**e Jr’s store upon his father’s death. The store burned when Walt R**e Jr had it, and the land was purchased by Leo and Emma Bauman. Eventually, the lot was leased to Beta Sigma Phi members who established the Courtyard Park. When the Museum Board bought the adjacent lots, they also bought this property from Leo and Emma Bauman. It is still the Courtyard Park, but with a covered picnic area. Laura Mason 8/17/25
