Have you been to Bush n Shurtz in Pima? Did you know it was once the ice plant? The following is an early recollection of Arden Allen.

As a small boy living on the farm, I would sometimes accompany my father to pick up some ice at the Bush and Son Ice Plant. The ice plant was located northside (what was then) the highway somewhat across from the railroad depot (which no longer exists). I truly enjoyed such an occasion because I was mystified with the mechanical operation of the ammonia compressor, which made the water freeze into large blocks of ice. The compressor was belt driven with a large flywheel on the compressor.

For a young boy this was quite fascinating. The only thing that I understood about all of this was that it made ice.
My reasoning for writing this tidbit is to inform the reader that I am now in possession of this great and grand flywheel. It is now used as the under structure for a table with a large glass top. Every time I see this table a lot of memories come forth. Since I am 90 plus, I would estimate that the Dodge Brothers made this great flywheel over 100 years ago.
Take good care of it when I’m gone.

This Friday and Saturday, April 10th and 11th. Come celebrate the founding of the Town of Pima. If you're new to the community and haven't been out to a Heritage Days celebration yet, this is your year to come join us. Activities start Friday morning with a quilt show 10-5 at the WM Carter Farm Museum (HWY 70 and Main St in Pima). Friday night is a $10 BBQ Dinner with live music from the Matheson Music Foundation at the Pima schools cafeteria from 5-7.
Saturday morning's Cowboy Breakfast is a can't miss event. Breakfast $6 includes pancakes, eggs, bacon and Dutch oven biscuits and gravy. The quilt show continues Saturday as well as free admission to the museum. Raffle tickets for a quilt, artwork or jewelry can be purchased at all events and the drawing will be after the breakfast on Saturday. This years theme is "Celebrate memories of yesteryear" See you this weekend!
