A new season of creative workshops begins May 12!

Deepen your photographic practice with new workshop Cultivating Devotion, led by artist and Fellowship 25 Keystone Award winner Sobia Ahmad. Sobia invites participants to explore a slow photographic practice shaped by sustained looking, ritual, and return. Framed around the idea of attention as devotion, the workshop asks what it means to remain with a place or subject over time. Rather than seeking decisive moments or singular images, the workshop emphasizes continuity, subtle change, and the quiet transformations that unfold through long-term engagement. These practices invite intuition to deepen, allowing familiarity to open new perceptions. Group meetings center on selected readings, artist references, and discussion. Individual feedback sessions will focus on conversation around participant work.

A new season of creative workshops begins May 12!

Our first workshop, Imagined Spaces in Familiar Places, will be led by artist and Fellowship 24 Award Honorable Mention Anna Rotty. Anna will lead participants in exploring the landscapes around us through observational photographing and constructed image-making. Artists who are currently, or are interested in, making work that involves the constructed image or layered and iterative practice are invited to experiment with material and conceptual interventions in the environments we inhabit. Our own backyards and neighborhoods have many stories to tell and can serve as backdrops for abstract and poetic storytelling about land and place.

Join us for the opening reception of Fellowship 26 on Thursday, May 21 from 6–8 PM at Silver Eye!

Celebrate work by Jamie Ho, Conner Gordon, Jacquelyn Johnson, Javier Griffey, Robert Contreras II, and Helen Jones. Together, these six artists’ distinct visual languages sustain personal processes of discovery while opening up new ways of seeing.

Building from the Fellowship 26 competition selected by this year's jurors Melissa Catanese, Anthony Francis, and Jessica Johnston, this year's artists invite us into worlds shaped by memory, ritual, and attentive observation.

Doors open at 6:00pm for refreshments and a first look at the exhibition. At 6:30pm, enjoy welcome remarks and introductions to the work on view. Celebrate with the artists and community members until 8pm!

Join us for this special edition of Salon! The Scholars @ Silver Eye present Edges of Seeing, a pop-up exhibition featuring the work of Dia Jade, Carter Crosby, Clarine Lee, and Noah Fodor.

Together, their work lingers in moments where visibility flickers and transforms. Dia Jade shapes a utopian narrative through surrealist, abstracted portraiture, reflecting on q***r identity and relationships. Carter Crosby composes databent images, merging visuals and sound, revealing cycles of decay and growth. Noah Fodor examines history, membership, masculinity, and q***rness by traversing archive, collage, and text. Clarine Lee highlights the fragility and rarity embedded within what is often overlooked. What is made visible, and what is not, defines how we see.

All are warmly invited to explore the exhibition with the artists and Scholars Danny Herz, Amber Holt, Madison Wise, and Kaylynn Zhang, and to gather afterwards in the Education Center to continue the conversation!

Join us for a hands-on workshop inspired by FIERCE: Pittsburgh, centered on reflection, collage, and self-expression.

Saturday, April 18, 2–4pm
The Altared Self: Mixed Me/dia Collage Workshop
Inspired by current exhibition FIERCE: Pittsburgh, Almah LaVon and Bekezela Mguni will lead a hands-on, reflective collage workshop. This invitation to alter/altar self portraits in honor of one’s own fierceness is open to all. Participants will create personal works using mixed media in a supportive, creative environment. You don’t have to identify as an artist or be experienced in collage or mixed media to join!

We hope you’ll join us to reflect and connect alongside artists and community. We also invite you to join our upcoming FIERCE: Pittsburgh program on Tuesday, April 14, 6–8 pm: Between Flesh and Firmament.

Between Flesh and Firmament: Rainbow Serpent Image-Making and Cosmology
Join us for a film screening of Between Us, The Gaze, offering an intimate entry point into Ajamu X’s practice, followed by a conversation with artists and project participants Marques Redd, Mikael Owunna, and Devan Shimoyama. Working across text, photography, and painting, these artists’ expansive practices activate the body as a godform and position art as a mode of world-building.

Join us for the third annual Picture Mixer at the Lab @ Silver Eye! Picture Mixer is an undergraduate portfolio fair where talented students share their work with the public, often for the first time.

Guests and visitors are warmly encouraged to attend—no registration required. Come discover new work, connect with artists, and support emerging talent in our community at this free event on Saturday, April 4.

Want to participate?
Pittsburgh university students are invited to showcase their lens-based art practices by registering for a presentation slot. This is an opportunity to meet other artists, sell or trade prints, and share your work in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Each artist will share a table with another participant during one of two sessions: Hour 1 (1–2pm) or Hour 2 (2:15–3:15pm). Participating artists will also have the option to join a print exchange, trading and receiving five photos from fellow artists. We also ask each artist to contribute one additional print for a gallery wall highlighting the work of Pittsburgh university students.
