Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸 Andy Warhol’s mother and frequent collaborator, Julia Warhola, recognized and nurtured Andy’s talents early on. An artist in her own right, she helped shape much of his work—adding her distinctive handwriting to many of his early pieces.

When you ask a kid what they want to be when they grow up, you might hear something like “I want to be an astronaut,” or “I want to be a painter,” or “I want to discover dinosaurs!” Or, better yet, “I’m going to be…” Every summer at Carnegie Museums, thousands of children are not only given the chance to imagine who they might become, but the rare opportunity to learn directly from world-renowned specialists in the very fields that spark their curiosity. Carnegie Museums Summer Camps create spaces where exploration is encouraged and creativity is nurtured.

The Pop artist was born on this day in 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania. He was a friend of Warhol’s and his work was shown alongside Warhol’s in various exhibitions.

Defined and cyclically redefined not by the confluence of its rivers and hills, but by the convergence of its people’s love of building community and making art. Nowhere is this more visible on the global stage than in "If the word we," the 59th Carnegie International.
