These chairs were designed by Walter Dorwin Teague Associates for the landmark interior design commission project for the United States Air Force campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1958. The campus buildings were designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

References: I. Alcoa Design Forecast book 1959 page 21 discusses Teague’s Air Force project. II. Interiors Magazine July 1959 page 45 Thonet advertisement showing chairs in Officers’ Club of United States Air Force Academy.

Another from 2016 - my friend Chris tells me about this table at an auction in bfe Ohio during the middle of the week. He knew it was up my alley and I am always grateful for the tip. I had somewhat stepped away from dealing full time and was working for img but had to get there as it was only in-person bidding. In order to get there, I remember making up a fake meeting and drove a couple hours out to the auction and was the successful high bidder. Please don’t tell Ari. Always thankful Chris 🙏

2016 - purchased this two-piece aluminum sculpture

2026 - ten years later still haven’t figured out who dunnit

This came from an all time favorite sale that hosted for the estate of Jack Johnson outside of Pittsburgh. He worked at Alcoa for many years heading the design department, and also managed the corporate art collection.

I can still remember staying outside of the house for most of the night before the sale. It was just me, Vince, and a few coyotes from the field across from the home. They didn’t go to the sale… they were just around.

This is one of the favorite pieces in my collection and wanted to share. #2016
