After deciding to leave commercial Illustration in 2022, following a 35 year career, I started creating fine art painting - mainly in watercolor. This endeavor is one that I have dabbled in over the years, whenever I wasn't on an illustration deadline.

In April of this year, I joined the Gold Country Artist Gallery in Placerville: https://www.goldcountryartistsgallery.net
It's a great two story Gallery on Main Street. It has 45 diverse and talented artist, and since it is a Co-Op Gallery, I have the honor of working at the Gallery 3 times a month. I have met some wonderful people(artist) and are grateful to be part of this amazing group.

The first of every month is Moving Day, in which artists move their artwork to a different location in the Gallery. This is also an opportunity to display new work, or maybe work that has been stored in their studios for a while. Shown below is my new space for July. I invite you to drop in sometime and check out the Gallery.

Inauguration Day 2009
11 years ago I decided to drive the backroads of El Dorado County to memorialize the day. President Obama was elected, and was being inaugurated. Though I am a Republican, and did not vote for him, I felt proud and emotional that our country elected him, our first black President. I spotted an old worn out American flag hanging on an old barn off Cedar Creek Road and it just hit me. I stopped, took out my watercolor paints and created a painting of it.

After watching the news this morning, and reading texts from my children about all the cities and business being boarded up in case of protests due the the outcome of the election today, I felt very sad. Should I drive around and find a boarded up store front to paint a picture of - to memorialize this day?
