We had such an amazing time marking the 6-month countdown to America’s 250th birthday with percussionist and museum educator, Justin Vedovelli, during THE BEAT OF THE REVOLUTION, an all-ages Revolutionary War drum circle. Museum guests were joined by Plainsboro Boy Scout troop #168 as Justin explained how drums were used in the Revolutionary War and Civil War and participants were invited to try their hand at playing different historically accurate commands like “turn left”, “turn right”, “get water”, “ceasefire”, and more. Justin also covered some important percussion rudiments like rolls and flams, taught in an easy to learn call and response format. It was so much fun to let loose- colonial style!

Countdown to 250 was a blast this past Saturday! From creative crafts and tasty treats to the joy of waving sparklers, kids (and grown-ups!) had a fantastic time kicking off the celebration.

Countdown to 250 is all about building excitement as we approach our country’s 250th anniversary in 2026 — and this was just the beginning!

Huge thanks to YAC (Youth Advisory Council) for helping plan and run such a fun, family-friendly event. Your energy and dedication made it all happen. Thank you to everyone who joined us — we’re already counting down to the next celebration!
