The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums

The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums Mine Tours, Exhibits, Youth Programs, Seasonal Events. The Museums open Wednesday - Sunday from May to October 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum offers experiences that bring to life the natural history, cultural history, science and industry of the Upper Mississippi Valley Mining District where Wisconsin was born. The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums are located on Main Street in Platteville, Wisconsin, in the heart of the historic Upper Mississippi Valley lead-zinc mining region. Founded in 1964, the museum is a nearly three-acr

e campus with scenic greenspace, an underground 1845 Bevans Mine, and a 1930s-era narrow-gauge mine railroad pulled by a 1931 Whitcomb locomotive. The mission of the Museums is to continue in the pursuit of excellence in the areas of regional and mining history. To achieve that purpose, the Museums are commissioned to be custodians of the past; to interpret the rich lead and zinc mining heritage of the region, as well as to preserve, interpret, and display the artifacts that define Southwest Wisconsin. Cultural programs and special events are offered year-round. (See our website for details at www.mining.jamison.museum). Admission Rates are:
Adults 13+: $12.00
Seniors 65+: $10.00
Children 5-12: $6.00
Children under 5: $3.00
UW-Platteville Students: $1.00

Thanks to the Friends of the Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums and the world famous boxing squirrels will be front and center in our exhibit area! This new display case was created so that our favorite taxidermied boxing squirrels can be protected from dust and UV lights while also being closer for our visitors to really see them! So, now you can take a selfie with these two!

The trees are budding, the grass is greening, and a 1931 Whitcomb train just rolled out of the shop. The sure signs that spring is on its way!
