SouthShore Technical district wide vote is on Saturday, 1/25, in Hanson, Marshfield, and the other 7 district towns. Below you will see the bipartisan support in an open letter to the editor that was sent to all the local and regional papers.
Ultimately, my decision of support was for two main reasons. First, after a tour with Superintendent Hickey back in the fall I quickly realized the incredible service the school does for our young people. They stretch a dollar farther than any school I have ever seen. Kids are learning valuable skills and I was blown away by the programming, staff, and student accomplishments.
Secondly, I believe it is time to get serious about providing students with an alternative to college. We cannot use this rhetoric, warn against the dangers of lifelong debt, and not provide a solution. If we want to create great job opportunities for hard working young people that are begging to stay in the communities they grew up in then we must invest. There is a sustained waiting list and it is disheartening to think of a student wanting to start building their future being turned away because we have a small aging building that cannot accommodate our needs. This building will also provide opportunity for future expansion into other communities.
To voters, I truly understand the concerns on cost. I spoke at length with the superintendent to understand how this would impact our communities. I believe they have the best possible plan in place to migrate that and it will not hurt our communities relative to many other state and local obligations.

Please get out to vote next Saturday and I encourage you to Vote Yes for a New South Shore Tech.
