Since 1749, the court house on Town Square has witnessed a lot of history. It has stood strong through wars, illnesses, politics, world upheaval, and multiple dramas in the lives of the town’s sons and daughters. And through those decades and centuries, it has also witnessed courage, kindness, justice, selfless actions, and quiet daily sacrifice. Now, in these our difficult days, it is once again witnessing a town joined together to triumph over a frightening enemy that has turned modern life upside down. As we here wait with loved ones and friends, together, though apart, it looks down on a picture of survival and willful continuity, resourcefulness, and compassion. We are doing the right things, and will not forget these days. We will hold each other up, and not let anyone be lost. We will win this war, and mark this new milestone with victory, and brand it with love.
We at the 1749 wish all of you health, a helping hand, peace and strength, and victory. We know you are fighting and holding on too. We’ll see you again on a brand new day on the other side of this, when our doors open wide again.
