The African-American Museum of Beginnings is moving, learning, and celebrating together. Our first conga lesson brought the community into the rhythms of the African diaspora in Cuba — exploring how drum traditions, dance, and storytelling travel across continents and generations.

This month, our focus is on the Cuban sound and its deep Afro-diasporic roots. Participants learned not just technique, but the cultural meaning behind the rhythms — how music becomes a bridge, a keeper of memory, and a connector of community.

If you’d like to join us for the next session, the details are on the flyer.
Come drum, learn, and celebrate with us.

🎬 Soul Cinema is coming back to the African-American Museum of Beginnings.
For years, this program brought our community together — laughing, learning, and seeing ourselves reflected on screen. It was storytelling, healing, and celebration all in one.

We’re ready to bring it back.
And today, on Giving Tuesday, you can help make that happen.

Your donation supports:
• Community film nights for all ages
• Culturally rich storytelling rooted in the African diaspora
• A safe, welcoming space for families, youth, and elders
• The legacy of our founder, Khalif Rasshan

When you give, you’re not just funding movies.
You’re restoring a beloved tradition.

❤️ Donate today and help us bring Soul Cinema back.

The recent rains brought more than just water to our city — they also caused a bit of flooding inside our beloved community museum. To make sure the space is safe, restored, and welcoming for everyone, the museum will be temporarily closed until December 3.

Even with our main space being repaired, our programming continues.
The November 22 Reading Circle (12pm-2pm) is still happening as scheduled in the room directly across the hall from the museum.
We’d love to see you there.

And as we prepare for our upcoming Luncheon & Awards, you can stay connected by joining our Luncheon Interest List for early ticket updates. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSczamZ8I0_IBgk_RiqbW8BTgGRd-0w3bkoZPWwJCVdY9xRdGQ/viewform

Thank you for your patience and for always standing with us. We look forward to reopening and reconnecting with you soon. 💛🏛️🌧️
