The Jones House Museum

The Jones House Museum Historic House Museum, circa 1858, operated by the Livingston County Historical Society. This is a great historic home to visit! Mr.

Placed on the National Historic Register in 1978, the Jones House is the oldest remaining brick home in Pontiac. It is currently owned by the Livingston County Historical Society and is open for tours on varying dates. We will post our schedule as dates open are confirmed. The pre-civil war home is an excellent example of Gothic Revival Architecture, popular in the US in the 1850's, but rather uni

que for Pontiac. The house was built in 1857-58 by the John Dehner family. Dehner was an early Pontiac merchant and resident who owned a dry-goods store downtown. He was involved in local politics (serving as the Mayor of Pontiac) and invested in railroads and mining. During the depression of the 1870's the family went bankrupt and the home was sold at auction. The home is named for the Jones family, who lived here the longest (1899-1955). Jones was in the newspaper/printing business, was involved in local politics (he also served as Mayor) and died in the house in 1921. The house has had a storied history! Home to numerous families in addition to the Dehners and Jones, the home has also been 3 apartments, and was nearly destroyed in a fire before restoration. It is currently furnished with period antiques. Come out and visit and experience the past through the eyes of successful area pioneers..
