This is the last week to submit your original art piece, any medium, or quilt block for our America250 MS Art Challenge. Maybe you want to celebrate a favorite memory, honor a person who made a difference, or celebrate an activity that sets Port Gibson/Claiborne County apart.

Don't let your favorite person, place or thing be left out of the story as we commemorate America's 250th Birthday! Visit the website for more details or reach out to any board member with questions.

This Art Challenge is made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission , through support from the State of Mississippi and the National Endowment for the Arts.

On this rainy Memorial Day we are reminded that Freedom is not Free, we honor those who paid the ultimate price and we celebrate those who continue the fight today.

With freedom comes responsibility. We owe it to those who have sacrificed, and to ourselves to pay it forward by maximizing, not squandering, the opportunities we have today. What will your contribution to Freedom look like?

1st Day of the Merry Hearts Wellness program, May 20, 2026 at Mississippi Cultural Crossroads and the ladies were truly engaged. They started off with a low impact exercise routine that they always look forward to. Mr. George Dixon and his staff of the Mississippi Shine project always bring excitement, valuable knowledge and goodies. The MS Shine project continues to support healthy choices, provide on hands training on using blood pressure cups, glucose monitors, etc and the importance with keeping up with your numbers. They were sponsors of todays lunch. Ms. Theresa Jackson of the EFNEP nutrition program with the Alcorn State University Extension Department kept them entertained discussing fruits and vegetables and their specific functions in our bodies. She even brought some delicious samples and the ladies really enjoyed them. Lastly, the ladies were challenged with a relaxing art project that tested their fine motor skills and dexterity with the ART project of the day. The flower vase and collage of flowers they had to cut out individually was worth seeing. Concentration was definitely needed, along with a little chatter among friends.
