Carry PLAY in your heart as you continue to think, imagine, create & invent. We are grateful to & inspired by the generations of makers, artists, musicians, explorers, scientists, cooks, veterinarians & super heroes who are primed to continue the playful learning practices they developed within our exhibit halls & classroom walls.

This Winter Break, investigate a source of ever-changing wonder alongside your child thru Experiences & Recommended Reads. “Play helps our light shine by writing the story of our life.” —Bridger (Age 10)

❄ What stories or worlds live inside light & shadow?
❄ When gazing with fresh eyes, what surprises unfold?
❄ What happens when we slow down & pay attention?

: On this Human Rights Day, we are reminded that human rights are children's rights. Portland Children's Museum and Opal School stand with the United Nations and their Declaration on the Rights of the Child.

Playful Inquiry helps create conditions where children develop a strong sense of agency and self-efficacy in order to contribute to a thriving democracy.

Promoting a strong image of the child as creative, intelligent, loving, and worthy of love, we believe that children are not passive objects of care and charity - they are human beings with distinct rights to health, education and protection.

Give Yourself Grace & Space: Don’t be too hard on yourself in regards to online schooling or anything else that might add extra stress to your day. We are all doing the best we can during a very difficult time, and it’s okay to take breaks, rest, and be alone.

Young children can benefit from routine downtime too, so feel free to set aside some quiet time each day for everyone in the house.
