Might be Banksy. Might not be. Either way, still a good quote to live by. 🎨💛

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our crowdfunding campaign for the Boneyfiddle Artist Collective—a dream years in the making! Founded by sisters Amanda and Dot Flanagan, both born and raised in Southern Ohio, the Collective is built on their shared passion for community, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Dot, a graphic designer and marketer for over 10 years, and Amanda, a business administration graduate with a background in accounting and bookkeeping, grew up immersed in entrepreneurial spirit. Their parents instilled in them the importance of self-sufficiency through programs like Girl Scouts and 4H. Inspired by their mother, who dreamed of a makerspace to provide young creatives with opportunities to bring their dreams to life, this Collective is a tribute to her vision and love for fostering creativity.

By contributing, you'll be supporting:

🎨 Affordable artist studios and offices
🖌️ Supplies and equipment
🛠️ Workshops and events
🖼️ Space for exhibitions

✨ Donate today and help us honor this legacy! ✨

We have bumped into a snag in moving into our building this month due to Hurricane Helene. But we are still persevering through! We still have quite a bit to go with our donation goal and if you'd like to donate, you still can. Any amount is greatly appreciated. If you'd prefer another method of donating, just send us DM to discuss. As for those that donated already -- THANK YOU!

How did a historic downtown area in Southern Ohio get it's unique name? Most folks say it's derived from the French words "Bonte Fidele" or perhaps from “the name of the French explorer Beinville, who in 1749 camped four days at the mouth of the Scioto River, claiming the region for France." However the area got it's name, you'll only get to experience it in Portsmouth, Ohio!

The Portsmouth Daily Times endeavored to settle the historical debate over the origins of the Boneyfiddle name, with an interview of Joseph W. Mitchell, noting that the paper is "frequently asked how the term 'Bonafiddle' came to be applied to all that portion of the city lying west of Market Street." The Times noted that "Joe Mitchell has always been credited with having invented the name and fitting it on to the ‘Point’ locality, so that gentleman was sought by the reporter and made to give an account of the transaction.” To the disappointment of the bean patch and other theorists, Mitchell would explain how a court proceeding involving Conrad Gerlach led to the creation of the neighborhood's famous nickname in the 1880s.
