Portville Historical and Preservation Society

Portville Historical and Preservation Society Our Society seeks to promote an awareness and pride in the community's heritage that will insure its preservation for future generations.

PHPS, a non-profit organization, that preserves Portville history, and has a museum/office that is open on Thursdays 10-4 p.m., March through November, weather permitting. Our main focus is collecting, preserving, and exhibiting historic materials, pertinent to the social and cultural development of the Town and Village of Portville, New
York, and surrounding areas. We also sponsor programs of his

torical relevance, maintain an office for research assistance and displays, and produce our own publications. In 2001, we added the preservation of local historic sites to our Charter.

Original post: Gail Feuchter’s Vintage wedding Gown Fashion show is tomorrow at Fannie E Bartlett Center! We have been having a ball playing dress-up with the girls. In one of the photos, the old Maxson Flats apartment building is visible in the background! Anyone else have a photo of this building? It was near the post office in Portville. The year was 1952.

That is our grampa, Dr D L Wormer, walking Carolyn Wormer Hannon down the aisle behind her sister, Mary Lou (married to Ike Harrison a year later)

👉EVENTS FOR HERITAGE DAY WEEKEND👈

Looking for some fun activity on alumni weekend? We have some ideas for July 12&13

1️⃣ ALUMNI BANQUET: Friday night at the Old Library Restaurant. Sit and enjoy a meal with your class in an upscale venue (7-9pm). Come early for cash bar. Then back to Portville for more time to catch up with classmates at the Marquee or the American Legion.
2️⃣ PIONEER PARK: Saturday is HERITAGE DAY in downtown Portville from 10-4. You will see people you have not seen in years! We will have a tent for a place for alumni to gather. The CAR SHOW is in the shade and there are some great vehicles to see and owners for lots of car-talk. Vote on your favorite! Friendly hucksters will be set up in the main area, selling their wares. Lots of great craft items, raffles, and fund-raisers so bring cash. It’s HERITAGE DAY and it’s a tradition.
3️⃣ CHILDREN CAN PLAY GAMES: The games are back and more fun than ever! Have your kiddo get a beautiful butterfly painted on her face or a T-Rex on his. All for Portville for Youth which supports our youth sports teams.
4️⃣ MR PIATT AND ECOLOGY CAMP: Lots of 6th grade memories to be shared with Jim Piatt. He has some great photos and memorabilia to show you.
5️⃣ FOOD 🥞 FOOD 🥧 FOOD 🌭: Start out with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Eastern Star at the Masonic Lodge. Mosey by the pie sales at the Methodist Church and the Lutheran ladies group has great pies too.
When it is time for lunch, the Portville Fire Department is serving their roasted chicken meals with sides. Slow-cooked over open fire pits, it is a tasty meal. Don’t hesitate though, they sell out every year within a few hours. That’s how good it is. There are usually food trucks too. When we hear anything, we will post it! Will the Pville hotdog stand be there? Come to the park and find out! 🌭🌭🌭
6️⃣ ACTIVE ACTIVITY: We posted about PICKLEBALL already (Sat 10am at school courts; equipment provided); we are planning to do the KAYAKING again Sat morning if the river conditions are favorable (bring your own gear or if borrowed from the school, no charge this year but you must sign the waiver ); we have requested the PIERSON ROPES CHALLENGE behind the school for Sat. 1-4 but it is contingent on availability of trained staff. More on that later when confirmed.
7️⃣ TAKE A NAP THEN GO TO THE LEGION: the parking-lot-street-dance is held on Saturday at the legion on Main Street (across from the firehall). The BAND is “Wasted Whiskey” and they play a variety of rock, pop, classic rock, and country. Starts about 7pm.
8️⃣ MARQUEE BREWING is new and hot!: Cory Clark has created a unique technique in brewing and his drinks are SO GOOD! An alum from PCS class of 1986, he was just named Entrepreneur of the Year by JCC’s Small Business Dev. Center, last Thursday, May 2nd. Stop by his place (he renovated the pharmacy building) and check out the drinks and the eats, too!
9️⃣ CLASS PICNICS and PARTIES: I have seen a few posts for classes so if you have a Facebook group for your class, that’s usually where you will find the info.

SEE YOU THIS SUMMER AND REMEMBER, THERE IS ONLY ONE PORTVILLE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!
