Feb 19th - To all members and friends and the community-at-large - -
A brand new GoFundMe has just now been created benefit our community's historic Welsh Church. It is named:
Poultney Welsh Church-Historic Chairs Restoration Fund. Gifts may be made to it from anywhere in the world.
It is created BECAUSE:
At a recent board meeting of the non-profit, the gift of three historic chairs was presented to the board - the chairs were in the South Poultney Welsh Church that was near the quarries.
This is a 'life's full circle" gift! :-)
More than 60 years ago, that South Poultney church closed and the chairs were given to Poultney Historical Society. They have been in storage in that collection since. Since PHS has no other Welsh heritage exhibits, it desired that the chairs be gifted to the 125 year old Welsh Church located on Grove Street.
The Historical Society's gift of the chairs to Poultney Welsh Church Preservation Alliance + Presbyterian Fellowship, Inc. with request that the chairs be restored and displayed was presented to the board of the non-profit on Grove Street.
Following discussion, the officers of Poultney Welsh Church ... voted to accept the offer and I, Janice, and professional historian Tom Hughes were appointed to undertake this project for restoration and fund-raising. [All in the church, the historical society, and the St. David's Society are volunteers.]
Sometime mid March to mid April, the chairs will be relocated from the East Poultney museum.
Tom and I have begun work to secure a professional historic furniture restoration person to work with PWCPA ... . And, we have begun work for fund-raising needed to accomplish this, although we do not yet know the total dollars that will be needed.
All gifts will be most gratefully appreciated. Should gifts for the chair work exceed the amount needed, those gifts will be dedicated for other restoration needs of historic Poultney Welsh Church.

***Should anyone wish to gift by check instead of through the GoFundMe, please make check payable to: PWCPA and postal mail it to: Poultney Area St. David's Society, 60 Norton Avenue, Poultney, VT 05764-USA.
Please note "chairs restore" on the memo line of your check.
Thank you all.
Janice and Tom

The Poultney Historical Society wishes everyone a Happy Presidents' Day.
Here is a quick fact of the day:
Did you know two U.S. Presidents were born in Vermont? Chester A. Arthur, 21st U.S President (1881-1885), was born in Fairfield, Vermont on October 5, 1829 and Calvin Coolidge, 30th U.S. President (1923-1929), was born in Plymouth, Vermont on July 4, 1872.
We want to know ... who's your favorite president?
