Historical documents from our archives! Here are two documents in four images. The first two images show the inventory of the estate of John Smith of Pound Ridge, created on January 4th, 1810. The last two images record the sales of these items at auction a few days later. This is a fascinating glimpse of the material record over two centuries ago. The inventory includes animals, tools, furniture, and even some cider! At the time that this list was created only a generation after the end of the Revolutionary War, James Madison was President and Pound Ridge was a rural farming community. This past is borne out here in the items and names.

Cleaning gravestones and honoring the past! As part of our Rev250 celebrations, the PRHS is undertaking gravestone cleaning in the Historic Acre of Burial Hill cemetery, Pound Ridge. Some of these gravestones date back to the 1700's and many of those buried here played witness to the Revolutionary War. The early phase of this project is being completed with the help of high school students earning community service hours. In May we will be opening up volunteer opportunities to PRHS members, so watch this space! Come help us preserve and protect Pound Ridge history! On this opening day of the Major League Baseball season, we share this wonderful piece of baseball memorabilia from our archives. This scrapbook, dated 1940-41, was compiled by a 14-year old Samuel Cloyd “Bob” Bobletz of Pound Ridge, NY. Bob would go on to serve in both the Pound Ridge Post Office and Pound Ridge Police Department for decades, but throughout the 1940-41 baseball seasons, he diligently followed the stories of his favorite players in his treasured scrapbook.
