Capture the beauty of the Southwest in watercolor with award-winning artist Chris Sommerfelt! 🌵🎨☀️

Join us for Paint a Southwest Landscape in Watercolor on June 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the Mountain Artists Guild.

This workshop is designed for confident beginners to intermediate watercolor artists who want to better understand how to paint the stunning landscapes of the Southwest — from expansive skies and glowing desert colors to the intense sunlight that makes our region so unique.

Chris will guide students through the importance of planning a landscape painting, including value studies, composition, color temperature, and intensity to create beautiful light-filled paintings. Students will watch demonstrations and then have the opportunity to paint with guidance throughout the day.

ABOUT CHRIS:
Chris Sommerfelt is an award-winning watercolorist with over 35 years of painting experience and more than 25 years of teaching experience. With a background in commercial art and graphic design, Chris has served as a mentor, judge, demonstrator, and active arts community leader in both Wisconsin and Arizona. She has been a valued member of the Mountain Artists Guild since moving to Prescott Valley seven years ago.

Office space will be available beginning June 1, 2026, at the Mountain Artists Guild. This unique 173 sq. ft. private office includes a private entrance, private bathroom, and access to a shared kitchen space within our creative arts environment.

Rent is $500 per month with a one-year lease.

Join us for the Learn to Draw Better Workshop with Paul Steele at the Mountain Artists Guild!

Whether you’re brand new to drawing or looking to sharpen your skills, this workshop will help you learn to see like an artist. Drawing well starts with observation—and as you develop your eye, the world around you becomes bigger, richer, and more vivid.

In this hands-on 2-day workshop, you’ll explore:
✏️ Measuring & comparing techniques
✏️ Line drawing & shading
✏️ Drawing from life vs. imagination
✏️ Thick & thin line techniques
✏️ Working with pencils, pens, charcoal, erasers, smudge sticks & more

No experience needed—beginners welcome!

👨‍🎨 About Paul Steele:
Paul Steele is an accomplished artist and instructor with a passion for painting western landscapes and working en plein air. A former professional illustrator in Los Angeles, Paul discovered oil painting after moving to Arizona and went on to study at the renowned Scottsdale Artists’ School with celebrated artists including Bob Lemler and Matt Smith. Today, he teaches his impressionistic techniques at Scottsdale Artists’ School, The Phoenix Center for the Arts, and stunning remote locations.

We’re excited to offer FREE art classes for Veterans at any skill level! Whether you’re new to art or have some experience, these sessions are designed to help you explore new artistic skills, tap into your creativity, and connect with fellow Veterans in a supportive and welcoming environment.
🗓 When: 1st & 3rd Thursday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

✅ Classes are completely FREE, and while registration isn’t required, it helps with planning if you sign up. Veterans are also welcome to bring a guest—spouse, child, or friend—just register them as a “secondary registrant."
