Slow down and take a closer look — there’s an entire tiny world waiting to be discovered. This summer, Sharlot Hall Museum invites photographers of all skill levels to capture “The Small World” for our Annual Summer Photo Contest.

From insects and flowers to dew drops and hidden details in nature, show us the miniature wonders you find across the museum grounds. Photos taken with cameras or mobile phones are welcome.

Submissions are due August 1, 2026, and must be taken at Sharlot Hall Museum or Fort Whipple Museum between May–July 2026.

One winner will be selected in each age category:
• Youth (12 & under)
• Teen (13–17)
• Adult (18 & older)

Winning photos will be featured by the museum, and one overall winning image will be turned into a postcard sold in the museum gift shop.

We are less than a week away from our next workshop: “Birds, Birds, Birds: Ornithology of Anyone” on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

Join award-winning photographer Joe Webster for an engaging workshop designed for both beginners and experienced photographers. This program explores how to photograph bird species in your own backyard and at key birding locations around the Prescott area.

Participants will learn practical techniques for composition, capturing high-quality wildlife images, finding and attracting birds in natural habitats, and the importance of ethical wildlife photography.

An optional guided field outing to Prescott’s lakes will give participants the opportunity to photograph resident and migratory birds, including egrets, herons, geese, eagles, and ducks.

Joe Webster is an award-winning photographer whose work has been widely exhibited across Arizona and featured in national publications. He is a lifetime member of the Sharlot Hall Museum and a longtime leader in regional photography organizations.

Experience the energy and tradition of bluegrass with The Arizona Wildflowers, a talented sibling group from Casa Grande, Arizona. Known for their tight harmonies and championship-level fiddle playing, this high-energy band delivers an authentic bluegrass sound that has captivated audiences across the country.

Led by eight-time fiddle champion Ranelle Dietrich, the group has earned multiple national titles and performed at renowned venues including the Grand Ole Opry. Beyond the stage, the siblings are also accomplished rodeo competitors, bringing a genuine Western spirit to every performance.

Our history-based youth camps give kids the chance to make new friends while exploring the connections between Arizona history, art, science, and engineering through hands-on experiences and engaging activities.

Today is 4th Saturday Finds at the Sharlot Hall Museum Store.

Museum Members receive 20% off their purchase, and Non-Members receive 10% off.

We’re also excited to announce a very special Play Date happening this June.

Join us on June 20 at 10:00 AM under the Gazebo for a magical morning with local author Judy Paris as she shares readings from her heartwarming stories inspired by the beauty of the Southwest. Featured favorites include Who Will Save the Desert?, Not Funny, Harvey!, and Condor Canyon Countdown.

Event Schedule:

10:00 AM — Storytime with Judy Paris
11:00 AM — Pop-up children’s craft hosted by our Education Department
Snacks — A small treat will be provided for children

What to Bring:
A cozy blanket for the grass, a hat, and sunscreen.

After storytime, guests can create their own desert in a jar using colorful sand and desert-themed fillers to design a fun landscape to take home.

Thank you to everyone who attended our “Birds of the Central Highlands” workshop. We are grateful to the Highlands Center for Natural History and to Maria Icenogle for her remarkable, engaging, and fun presentation on the incredible bird life of Arizona’s Central Highlands.

Participants learned about local bird species, habitats, and birding techniques before heading outdoors to practice observation skills on the museum grounds. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and our local environment.
