It was a wonderful evening celebrating the lifeblood of Sharlot Hall Museum: our incredible volunteers!

Our Annual Volunteer Potluck brought everyone together to share delicious food, swap stories, catch up on Museum news, and enjoy the camaraderie that makes this community so special. It was an evening filled with laughter, good conversation, and a reminder of just how much our volunteers mean to us.

From welcoming visitors and helping with special events to sharing their time, talents, and passion for local history, our volunteers play an invaluable role in everything we do. Their dedication helps keep the Museum thriving and makes Sharlot Hall Museum a welcoming place for our community and visitors alike.

To all our wonderful volunteers, thank you for everything you do and for being such an important part of the Sharlot Hall Museum family. We are grateful for each and every one of you!

Sharlot Hall Museum extends a huge thank-you to Jef Hewitt for an amazing presentation of "Magic of the West*" on Saturday, October 17! Guests laughed, were wowed by his incredible magic, and enjoyed a fascinating look at the history of magic in the American West. It was an unforgettable afternoon filled with history, humor, and wonder. Thank you, Jef, for sharing your talents and making this event so memorable!

This unique program brought together history, storytelling, and live entertainment to reveal the surprising role magic played in the American West.

From traveling performers and frontier towns to the larger-than-life characters who made their living entertaining audiences, magic was an important part of life and leisure across the West. Hewitt took audiences behind the curtain to explore the people, stories, traditions, and illusions that captivated Western audiences.

Through a combination of historical insight and live demonstrations, Hewitt brought the world of Western magic to life, offering a glimpse into the performers and traditions that helped shape American entertainment. The program featured tributes and tales of magicians from the “Golden Era of Magic,” including performers who traveled and entertained audiences throughout the Southwest in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

From the frontier stage to the grand traditions of the Golden Era, "Magic of the West" reminded us that the history of the American West is full of surprises. Thanks to Jef Hewitt, our guests left with a little more history, a lot of laughter, and perhaps a lingering question: was it magic, or was it just a really good trick?

Autumn is putting on quite a show at Sharlot Hall Museum, and we just can’t help but share a little of the beauty with you!

Our roses are still in bloom and smell amazing, the trees are beginning to turn, and the entire campus is taking on those lovely fall colors that make this time of year so special.

We’re just ONE WEEK AWAY from the next Victorian Living History at Sharlot Hall Museum!

Travel back to the late 19th century and enjoy a morning of living history performances presented by the Sharlot Hall Museum Victorian Society. Wander the beautiful museum grounds, encounter fascinating characters from Arizona’s past, and discover the stories they have to tell.

At 11 AM, join Dale McDonald in the Education Center Auditorium for a special presentation about John B. Stetson, the man behind the iconic “Boss of the Plains” Western hat.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Premier Victorian Tea! We loved sharing this elegant afternoon with our guests and hope you enjoyed the charm, conversation, and Victorian-inspired atmosphere as much as we did.

A special thank-you to Sue McDonald, Dale McDonald, Carol Fitzgerald, and all our wonderful volunteers for helping make this event so memorable!

We also want to recognize the amazing models who participated in our Victorian Fashion Show. They truly brought Victorian fall fashions to life!

What secrets are hiding in the ghost towns of Yavapai County?

During Arizona’s gold rush, discoveries in the Bradshaw Mountains sparked the rise of bustling mining communities. This week’s Day’s Past explores the stories of Bigbug, Middleton, and Walker, once-thriving towns that eventually faded as mining operations declined, fires devastated businesses, and economic booms came to an end. Though these communities have largely disappeared, remnants of their past remain scattered across the landscape, offering fascinating glimpses into Yavapai County’s rich mining history.

Sharlot Hall Museum is proud to partner with Community Cupboard Food Bank in Prescott for our 2026 Community Food Drive, running now through the end of January!

As a local institution supported by our community, giving back is at the heart of who we are. We invite you to join us in helping ensure our neighbors throughout Yavapai County have access to the food they need.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

Bring a non-perishable food donation to either of these locations:
- The Museum Depot
- The Bashford House Gift Store

As a thank-you for your generosity, you’ll receive $2 off Museum admission and 10% off Gift Shop purchases when you bring a food donation!

Community Cupboard Food Bank supports local families through its Prescott and Prescott Valley food banks, mobile food trucks serving area communities, and food deliveries to veterans at The Post at Fort Whipple.
