ACP staffers 9INHANDPRESS + Maria Evans alongside team have been busy hanging all the extraordinary works in our “Echoes in Our Bones: The Empowering Legacy of Black Women Artists in American Art and Culture“ exhibition which opens this wed, sept 9 and runs through sat, oct 3.

Curated by Judith K. Brodsky and RHINOLD PONDER |Artist | Writer this show explores how themes of identity, history, and cultural resilience have endured and transformed across generations. The exhibition examines how these artists have expanded the ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence, “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”, using art as a powerful vehicle for expression, resistance, care, and community.

Pairings of artists from past and present generations include Faith Ringgold and Bisa Butler, Selma Burke and Alison Saar, Mary Lovelace O’Neal and Julie Mehretu, Betye Saar and Tschabalala Self, Carrie Mae Weems and LaToya Ruby Frazier, Laura Wheeler Waring and Jordan Casteel, Elizabeth Catlett and Kara Walker, and Howardena Pindell and Shinique Smith.

Known as Porchfests, this trend involves a community-driven effort to organize and schedule a day of live performances in a residential area, with musicians of all skill levels and genres performing in assigned time slots. The stage is often a homeowner’s front porch or lawn, or the steps outside of a public space or historical building."

We are honored to present Echoes in Our Bones: The Empowering Legacy of Black Women Artists in American Art curated by Judith K. Brodsky and Rhinold Ponder

On view starting September 9 and running through October 3, this extraordinary exhibition brings together intergenerational artists to explore enduring themes of identity and history.

The artists represented — Faith Ringgold and Bisa Butler, Elizabeth Catlett and Kara Walker, Selma Burke and Alison Saar, Mary Lovelace O’Neal and Julie Mehretu, Betye Saar and Tschabalala Self, Carrie Mae Weems and LaToya Ruby Frazier, Laura Wheeler Waring and Jordan Casteel, and Howardena Pindell and Shinique Smith — engage in conversations that transcend generations. Their works reveal how Black women artists have expanded the possibilities of artistic expression while offering insight into their understanding of American life. When paired, these artists bring to light a continuum of creativity that has at times been marginalized within traditional narratives and the canon of American art.

The works demonstrate that history is not static, but continually shaped and reshaped by those who challenge its omissions, recover its stories, and imagine new possibilities for the future.

Whatever size spoonful, our Princeton Community Chili Cook-Off is serving up fun for all!

Make sure you grab your tickets for this annual sell-out event happening Sunday, October 11: there will be 15+ different chilis to try (and you are welcome to round out your lunch with a picnic!) Try them all and cast a vote for your favorite – at 2:30pm, we will present the coveted awards.

Additionally, treat yourself to our lemonade stand or a deliciously crisp brew from Triumph Restaurant & Brewery • Triumph Brewing Company of Princeton, with a portion of proceeds benefiting us and our co-hosts Historical Society of Princeton

Live bluegrass music by Sourland Mountain String Band and lawn games will complete this festive fall day on the farm.
