Good afternoon everyone,
Just a few updates as we get this week started.
CLASSROOM:
This week's UIL Piece analysis assignment has been posted (Chant and Jubilo). Overall, I enjoyed reading through the responses regarding Blue Ridge Saga! Now that we had our 'test run' with the assignments last week, grading will be a bit stricter going forward. The more thorough you are and the more musical terminology you use, the better chance you will have at achieving a good score.
Also note that I am going to be 'collecting' the assignments via e-mail this week. Instructions are on the assignment. This is different than last week, and will honestly make it a lot cleaner on my end in reading and grading.
ZOOM LIVE CLASS:
Also on the Google Classroom stream is a link to next week's virtual session. On Monday, April 6th at 1:00 pm, I will be hosting a mini-lesson on Chant and Jubilo. In this lesson we will listen and discuss certain parts of the piece. Topics discussed will include anything from instrumentation, construction of melody/harmony, flow of piece, different moods, and how the analysis relates to the PHS Wind Ensemble. Please mark the time and plan on attending! It will help you finalize your assignment due by the end of that day. If you are unable to attend, please e-mail me and let me know!
GOOGLE VOICE/Skype lessons
Starting next week, we will allow students to substitute out a required assignment with a Google Voice recording and/or a video lesson. More details to come within the week.
UIL CONCERT BAND and STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE:
As of right now, both events are still being planned to take place. UIL events are all postponed until at least May 4th. We are waiting to hear from our specific region about concert band contest when a new date will be scheduled. If it is scheduled, it will likely be in late May. As soon as we know, we will post updated information. State Solo and Ensemble has no new updates at the time, and is still scheduled for either May 30th or June 1st in the Austin/Pflugerville area.
Take care everyone, and don't hesitate to reach out to a director if you have any questions! Make sure you check out the Progreso Instrumental Fine Arts page as well. And if you are not on remind, e-mail Mr. Padilla at [email protected] to get listed.
In music,
Mr. Fischer
