Good morning everyone,

Just a few updates to pass along:

-Grades - please make sure that you are attempting to keep up with the classwork on Google Classroom! Even though grades are not currently official, word is that the board passed approval to designate students as 'passing' or 'incomplete' for the time we have been doing remote learning. We will accept all late assignments!

- Instrument pickup/dropoff/checkout - if you want to either pickup and checkout an instrument for the summer, or drop one off that you will not use over the summer, the directors will be at the high school band hall from 1p-4p on Wednesday, May 13th and Friday, May 15th. Show up any time during that timeframe.
*If you already have an instrument and want to continue to check it out over the summer, fill out the information in the e-mail that Mr. Padilla sent out yesterday and you will not need to go the school.
* Middle school students planning on doing marching band next year can also check out instruments from the high school during those days.

-Leadership applications are online - if you would like to apply for a leadership position in next year's marching band, please fill out the google form online. We will have a Zoom leadership group interview on Thursday, May 21st at 1 pm.

-Summer schedule will be released next week.

Any questions, don't be afraid to contact me or Padilla,

Fischer

The human race has always been fascinated with looking up and interpreting the night sky. Gods were made, stories were told, and legends were born from the alignment of the stars. People from all civilizations connected what they saw in the skies to what they experienced on earth.

Good afternoon everyone,

Just a few updates as we continue living the best quarantine life:

* Still no official word about UIL Concert or State Solo and Ensemble contests. The fate of these will likely hinge on the governor's decision about the remainder of the school year.
* Continue to check Google classroom. Mr. Padilla and I are frequently posting new materials and information.
* E-mails are open - if you have any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail Mr. Padilla or myself.
* Use office hours as well - our office hours are listed on the Classroom site. If you need assistance with any assignment, this is the easiest way to get it.
* Classes - every Monday (except this week due to Easter), I will host a class at 1 pm. Please do your best to attend! Classes are only about 30 minutes.

My new assignment is up, and Mr. Padilla will be adding his later this week. Please continue to check classroom, as more assignments will start being added.

Hope everyone is safe and healthy!

Fischer

Good afternoon everyone,

Just a few updates as we get this week started.

CLASSROOM:
This week's UIL Piece analysis assignment has been posted (Chant and Jubilo). Overall, I enjoyed reading through the responses regarding Blue Ridge Saga! Now that we had our 'test run' with the assignments last week, grading will be a bit stricter going forward. The more thorough you are and the more musical terminology you use, the better chance you will have at achieving a good score.

Also note that I am going to be 'collecting' the assignments via e-mail this week. Instructions are on the assignment. This is different than last week, and will honestly make it a lot cleaner on my end in reading and grading.

ZOOM LIVE CLASS:
Also on the Google Classroom stream is a link to next week's virtual session. On Monday, April 6th at 1:00 pm, I will be hosting a mini-lesson on Chant and Jubilo. In this lesson we will listen and discuss certain parts of the piece. Topics discussed will include anything from instrumentation, construction of melody/harmony, flow of piece, different moods, and how the analysis relates to the PHS Wind Ensemble. Please mark the time and plan on attending! It will help you finalize your assignment due by the end of that day. If you are unable to attend, please e-mail me and let me know!

GOOGLE VOICE/Skype lessons
Starting next week, we will allow students to substitute out a required assignment with a Google Voice recording and/or a video lesson. More details to come within the week.

UIL CONCERT BAND and STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE:
As of right now, both events are still being planned to take place. UIL events are all postponed until at least May 4th. We are waiting to hear from our specific region about concert band contest when a new date will be scheduled. If it is scheduled, it will likely be in late May. As soon as we know, we will post updated information. State Solo and Ensemble has no new updates at the time, and is still scheduled for either May 30th or June 1st in the Austin/Pflugerville area.

Take care everyone, and don't hesitate to reach out to a director if you have any questions! Make sure you check out the Progreso Instrumental Fine Arts page as well. And if you are not on remind, e-mail Mr. Padilla at [email protected] to get listed.

In music,
Mr. Fischer
