A nicely-appointed hotel for visitors to spend their $ in Downtown Prosser? Some other use that could enhance our community? Price as-is: $99,000.
In my humble opinion there are several ways this could play out:
1. To properly renovate this historic building will require serious money and require a use that will produce some level of profit on investment. Is there a person or group of people who might take this on? Perhaps.
2. The building might be purchased by someone who will simply let it continue to exist in it current damaged state. Not a good look for downtown or the rest of Prosser.
3. It may be purchased by someone who will simply demolish it and permit the land to exist as an empty lot for many many years. Also not beneficial to downtown or the greater community.
4. The building may be purchased by someone who will demolish it and build a far cheaper new building in its place, thus diminishing the historic character of Prosser’s downtown but perhaps establishing a place of business that can turn a profit.
5. It may be purchased, demolished and rebuilt by someone who can pull off a new building consistent with the historic nature of downtown Prosser. Perhaps this new building could incorporate architectural elements from the existing building in a manner that might benefit downtown.
6. And finally, it’s possible the building will fail to attract a buyer for the foreseeable future.
Should be interesting.
