This Tuesday, March 31st, Rhode Island comes together for 401Gives, and AAMRI will be right there, counting on our community.

We are Rhode Island's first formally established African American museum led entirely by Black community members.

What we're building is historic and it takes your support to sustain it.

Starting at 6AM on Tuesday, March 31st through 6PM on Wednesday, April 1st, you can make a gift that directly supports our exhibitions, educational programs, and archives.

Save this post. Set a reminder. Share it with someone who cares about Black history in Rhode Island. 🙏🏾

🚨 401GIVES is almost HERE! 🚨

Tuesday is your chance to be part of something powerful.
The African American Museum of Rhode Island is building more than a museum; we are creating a space where history is preserved, stories are told, and the next generation is empowered.

Your support helps us:

🖤 Develop impactful exhibits that tell the story of Black Rhode Island
🎓 Train and employ youth through our workforce development programs
🏛 Open the doors to our new building; our permanent home
Every donation is an investment in culture, education, and legacy.

💚 Help us build something that lasts for generations.

One month away! The African American Museum of Rhode Island will open its initial location - the "First Space" cultural hub and gallery on April 4th, 2026. This space will serve as an inaugural site for African American Museum of Rhode Island exhibitions and initiatives, a space for visitors to check-in with African American history, and a place to call home as we continue to expand our facilities.

Join us inside the John Brown House Museum, a Rhode Island Historical Society museum, for Finding Black Voices in the Archive! Rhode Island Historical Society

Archivists, researchers, curators, and museums bring a range of disciplinary approaches, lived experience, source material, and different relationships to the African Diasporic and Black communities.

This panel, led by Dr. Christopher West, Executive Director of the African American Museum of RI, and Jennifer Galpern, RIHS Senior Manager of the Robinson Research Center, will analyze how each organization delves into its collections and finds the stories of Black Rhode Islanders. Learn about the techniques used by the archivists and historians, real stories of Providence’s Black community, and how you too can explore these archives.

🗓️February 26th, 2025 at 5:30PM
📍John Brown House Museum, 52 Power St. Providence, RI

Doors open at 4:30 pm for a reception where attendees explore the museum before hearing the lecture. Advance registration is recommended as space is limited.
