“The Bow” and “Three Boats” hang next to each other in the gallery, yet they seem to juxtapose one another; the portrait of a woman, rounded and soft, looks toward the ground and portrays a feeling of uncertainty, or perhaps momentary ease. The bows of the boats point toward the center of the canvas with an assured strength, angular and ready to take on any danger from incoming weather. Both paintings feel full of movement, despite being still lifes.
