Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum

Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum The oldest nonprofit educational, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization on Cape Cod. President Theodore Roosevelt laid the cornerstone in 1907.

The Pilgrim Monument was founded in 1892 as the Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial Association—Cape Cod’s oldest not-for-profit organization. Its purpose is to commemorate the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landing in the New World in Provincetown, in November 1620. Here the Pilgrims spent 5 weeks exploring the tip of Cape Cod before they sailed on to Plymouth. They also drew up and signed the Mayflower Compact

, which established the rule of law for the new land. The Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial Association built the Pilgrim Monument to honor the Pilgrims’ first landing in Provincetown. In 1910, President William Howard Taft dedicated the finished 252-foot tower. In 1910, the Cape’s first building built to house a museum opened at the base of the monument, to educate the public about Provincetown’s role in Pilgrim history and American history. Today, millions of visitors and generations of local residents have admired and climbed the 252 foot granite Pilgrim Monument for almost 100 years. The Provincetown Museum is a charming mix of the old and the new. The permanent exhibits retain the charm of an old-fashioned history museum. Exhibits highlight the arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims, the town’s rich maritime history, the early days of modern American theater in Provincetown, and the building of the monument. There is also a recreation of a 19th century sea captain’s parlor at home and his quarters at sea, a diorama of the Mayflower Compact being signed aboard the Mayflower in Provincetown Harbor, and a scale model of the first theater of the Provincetown Players. 🎶 TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE 🎶

Join us On The Hill on Wednesday, June 24 from 6:00–8:00 PM for a special evening with Cape Cod singer-songwriter Jordan Renzi and her band as part of our Music On The Hill summer series.

Fresh off a sold-out album release show and celebrating her acclaimed new album On Your Side, Jordan has quickly become one of the Cape’s most exciting emerging artists. “Her music blends high-lonesome folk, contemporary soul, and deeply personal storytelling into a performance that is both powerful and unforgettable.”

This is one of a handful of ticketed events in our summer lineup, allowing us to bring exceptional artists like Jordan to The Hill while continuing to support PMPM’s public programming throughout the season.

Today looks sunny ☀️ & cool 😎. We call that…

PERFECT CLIMBING WEATHER!

There’s so much happening On The Hill these days that sometimes it’s easy to forget one of the biggest reasons people come to PMPM in the first place:

The Climb.

At 252 feet tall, The Pilgrim Monument can look intimidating from the outside but once you step inside, it’s surprisingly user-friendly. Only the first two levels are stairs, and after that The Climb continues via ramps with handrails all the way up.

And no two climbs are ever the same.

Whether it’s your very first time reaching the top or your 300th (which, yes, does happen around here), there’s always something different waiting for you…light, weather, harbor, dunes, energy, the feeling when you step out at the top.

Some people become members specifically so they can climb whenever they want. Morning Climb. Afternoon Climb. Daily Workout Climb. Sunset Climb. Why not?

So whether it’s been years since your last visit, you’ve never made the trip to the top, or you’re already one of our regular climbers, consider this your sign to come back.

You never know what Provincetown will look like from up there on any given day.💙

Last night’s opening reception for A Town That Worked: After The Storm – Part One was fantastic.

Thank you to everyone who came out. And while we’re thanking people, we want to thank Salvador Vasques My Provincetown Memorabilia Collection for the incredible collection he donated to us last year. This first turn of the show focuses on such early times that his postcards were key to complete parts of the stories.

Part One of the exhibition is only on view through July 5, so don’t miss it!

We are open all weekend from 10 AM–5 PM.
Last ticket sold at 4 PM.

Come spend some time On The Hill and help us make this our Best.Season.Yet.
