Sam Woods, Purvis High School graduate, was a WW II spy.

From the Purvis Tornado Book April 24, 1908, 2004 edition, "Sam Woods was thought to be dead.........Sam was covered with a sheet and later revived by rainwater falling on him.”
Read how Sam Woods helped stop the Germans from getting an atomic bomb. I will make another post later giving details on the hundreds of Allied Pilots he helped rescue.

We are very excited to present our special guest for the festival this year, JAMAHL TATUM!!

Jamahl Tatum is a native of Purvis, MS, who went on to achieve many accomplishments after graduation. He is a proud father of Zoey and Creed Tatum. Jamahl has pursued a professional career as a manager at Newk's Eatery for 7 years all while following his dream in becoming a professional MMA fighter. He trains at Graham MMA in Petal, MS. Not only does he work hard to continue to excel in his fighting career but he also teaches different classes at the gym where he enjoys pouring his love and knowledge of the sport into others. He has a professional record of 6-2 with one of his most recent being a KO in 23 seconds!!

Make sure you come by the Purvis Street festival November 8th to see Jamahl and check out the rest of our amazing vendors!

The Lamar County History Museum located in Purvis adjacent to the library will be open Tuesday , November 4th, 2025, from 10 am-2:00 pm. Admission is free. Children are welcome.
The Purvis Tornado book and Will Purvis book will be available for $15.00 each. The Purvis Tornado DVDs are free. The Lamar County Historical Society postcards will also be available at $3.00 each.
Send me a message to schedule a private or group tour. Elementary, Middle School and High School classes are welcome to schedule a tour.

We are so excited for this years festival and can not wait for everyone to come and experience our beloved town! We have some amazing vendors, a very special guest, wonderful local talent and more! Make sure you come ready to shop, eat and enjoy a great day in Purvis! Need a Christmas gift? Fun family outing? Want to listen to some wonderful music? Are you into antique cars? Ready to know who’s the best pie bakers?

Hancock Whitney Bank Wilson Room

I hope each of you will be able to join us. Please bring along a friend. We will have a guest speaker, Joey Rayburn, who will speak to us on the history of Coca-Cola.

We will hear fundraising opportunities and an update on Lamar County Heritage Day. In addition, election of officers, for the upcoming year will be held.
