Today we celebrate a day of giving thanks.
You may see this today or 10 months from now. I challenge you regardless of when you see this to set aside sometime to remember the blessings in your life.
For me personally the times I find I need this reflection are during my most painful life seasons. It can be hard to remember gratitude when everything in our life feels as though it is falling apart. It can also be hard to see the gratitude in the better seasons, as we may be to busy to set aside the time to really acknowledge it.
Here is an a-typical list that I remind myself of daily. To me in the hard times, the lonely periods or the most challenging moments I remind myself of these hidden gems in my life. Realizing this isn't the case for everyone. Feel free to comment something or many things you are grateful for.
My Top A-typical Gratitude List
1. Words. -Words are more powerful that we often take note of. I am grateful for the uplifting, encouraging and supportive words others have provided me with.
2. My hands. -My hands have allowed me a specific way to express myself. Although there are many means of expression, I know not everyone has this as an option. I am grateful to be able to write and create with my hands.
3. Clean sheets. - May sound silly at first. However, not everyone can afford this luxury. Some may not currently have a home or a place to wash their belongings. Some may have experienced this situation in the past or may in the future. This is a simple reminder to me of a profound gift.
4. Connection. -via a phone call, snail mail, in person gathering or other means like a hug. "Humans need other humans" and this is one of the greatest blessings in my life. People who guide me, carry me when I feel I cannot go any further and friends who allow me the gift of paying it forward.
AND
5. Healing. Healing comes in so many ways, in different degrees, at different times, and for different reasons. I am so grateful for a life that allows me to continuously grow and heal. Often from things and places I never knew healing was even needed.
I hope today you can find time to reflect on the gratitude you have. Whether it be for people, material means, opportunities, etc. I also hope you can find a way to make this a part of your regular routines.
Lastly, I want to thank you all for being part of such a beautiful community that has blessed me greatly.
